Do you have body dysmorphic disorder, also known as BDD? If you have a negative body image, this can impact your life and your overall wellness. Therapy can help you regain control and change the way you think and feel --- in a healthy way.
The trained psychotherapists at Bayside Psychotherapy could possibly help you overcome BDD.
Our counsellors are trained and skilled in many areas and with our help, you can stop harmful negative body image patterns from plaguing your life. Call us on (03) 9530 6353 or use our contact form to book your confidential appointment. We can work together to address core issues and aim to overcome the pain of BDD!
Common symptoms of BDD or distorted body image include: comparing yourself to others, preoccupation with a perceived physical imperfection (such as weight, facial characteristics) or a behavioural trait. Some people with this disorder develop anxiety disorders or eating disorders along with the BDD. The cost could be: anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, relationship issues, social isolation, and self-loathing. The result could be that you are afraid to socialise, live with constant paranoid feelings about being judged or mocked, and that you begin to sink into what feels like an abyss of depression. But it doesn’t have to be this way.
For those who have body dysmorphic disorder, even making drastic appearance changes such as plastic surgery, weight loss, or another physical change doesn’t typically help for very long (if at all). You need to overcome the disorder by addressing the psychological causes ….permanently.
Treatment can take a while, but no two people (and therefore no two treatment methods) are alike. Whether you need three or three hundred treatments, it’s important to get the help you need. Our counsellors tailor your treatments to your situation and to your progress. We may include one or a combination of mindfulness therapy, dream work, NLP, Hypnotherapy and other such methods in an effort to discover the best method for you to help you discover lasting inner peace and true joy in life.
Treatment at Bayside Psychotherapy caters to the individual needs of the patient. Our methods are tailored to you and are derived from our extensive history with many patients and are based on several treatment options.
