There are many different causes and symptoms of night eating syndrome. Some night eaters eat repeatedly through the night. Some do this because they’re trying to overcome binge eating during other parts of their day and by the time night rolls around, their resolve has totally faded.  Some people find that they’ve eaten and don’t even recall consuming food in the night. They wake up to food missing from the fridge and pantry.  People with night eating problems often feel self-loathing, anger with themselves, and become depressed. These emotions are unhealthy. Counselling can help you see food as it should be seen --- as a source of sustenance instead of a comfort or help during anxiety and stress.  Yes, food can temporarily change your mood but it can also be very harmful when eaten in excess. If you are having trouble stopping night eating and / or bingeing on your own, counselling can be extremely beneficial.

How long will night eating treatment take?

Treatment for night eating and any other eating issues will vary depending on the individual. Some clients of mine change their thoughts and habits in just a few short therapy sessions, with neuro linguistic programming, which will change your behaviours and thought patterns and can eliminate addiction and behaviour. Others require more in-depth treatment. Your openness and willingness to participate in your treatment is going to have a major impact on the duration of that treatment.
