About Bayside Psychotherapy
A team of eight therapists in Highett, in Melbourne’s Bayside. We offer counselling, psychotherapy, couples therapy, clinical psychology and hypnotherapy, in person and by video anywhere in Australia.
What you can count on
Starting therapy is a big step, and it’s normal to have questions or worries. Here’s what you can expect when you see one of our therapists.
Privacy
What you talk about in sessions stays confidential, within the limits set by law. Your therapist will explain those limits in your first session.
Therapy that fits you
Your therapist takes time to understand what has brought you in and what you would like to change, then plans your sessions around that.
No judgement
Whatever you’re dealing with, you can talk about it openly and work through things at your own pace.
Trust
Opening up to someone new takes time. Your therapist will check in on how sessions feel for you and adjust as you go.
How the practice began
Bayside Psychotherapy started in 2001 as a one-person counselling practice. Over the years it has grown into a team of eight therapists with different training and approaches, working from purpose-fitted rooms in Highett and by video.
Many of our clients come to us wanting to understand themselves better, as well as to feel better. Our therapists make time for both.
- 2001Adam Szmerling starts a solo counselling practice.
- 2003Adam begins further study.
- 2009The practice grows, with rooms in Brighton.
- 2013More therapists join the practice.
- 2015We move to larger rooms in Bentleigh.
- 2020We move to Highett, fit out soundproofed rooms and add more video sessions.
How we work
Our therapists draw on Western and Eastern traditions, including psychodynamic therapy, client-centred therapy, hypnotherapy, mindfulness, Buddhist psychology and NLP.
Your therapist will use the approaches that suit what you’re working on, whether that’s staying grounded day to day, understanding your past or changing old habits.
Our work with fears and phobias was featured on Channel 7’s House of Wellness.
