Our website explains what therapy involves, who it may suit, what it costs and how to start. Because this is health information, we check it carefully. This page explains who reviews our pages, where the information comes from and what to do if you spot a mistake.

Who reviews our pages

Every service and condition page on this site is reviewed for accuracy by Adam Szmerling, founder of Bayside Psychotherapy. Adam has more than 20 years of experience as a psychotherapist. He is an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) and a Registered Clinical Psychotherapist with the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA, registration 21960). You can check both on the AASW directory and the PACFA register.

Reviewing a page doesn’t mean Adam treats that condition himself. Where a page covers work that other therapists here do, what it says about their approach comes from their own profiles and qualifications. The date in the “Reviewed for accuracy” line near the top of each page shows when it was last checked.

Where our information comes from

What our pages can and can't do

  • Published research. We mainly use systematic reviews and meta-analyses, which pool the results of many studies. We link to each one, usually on PubMed, so you can read it yourself.
  • Official Australian sources, for things like Medicare rebates and helpline numbers.
  • Professional associations, for our therapists’ training and memberships. Most memberships can be checked on the association’s public register, and our hypnotherapists’ profiles link to theirs.
  • Our therapists, for how their sessions usually run and the kinds of concerns they work with. We never publish anything that could identify a client. Where a page uses an example, it’s a composite with details changed.
  • We describe what happens in sessions and who they may suit. We don’t promise results, because therapy affects each person differently.
  • Our pages are general information. They can’t diagnose a problem or replace advice from your GP or another health professional who knows your situation.
  • If you need urgent help, call 000 or Lifeline on 13 11 14.

How often we review pages

We review every service and condition page at least twice a year, and sooner when research, Medicare rebates, fees or our team change.

How we use writing tools

We sometimes use writing tools, including AI, to help draft and check pages. Adam reviews every page before it’s published, and research claims link to their sources.
