Mood Difficulties and Emotional Change

Everyone experiences highs and lows, but sometimes our moods shift more deeply or stay longer than expected. When feelings of sadness, irritability or exhaustion start affecting daily life, it may be time to reach out. Many people come to Bayside Psychotherapy after trying to manage on their own and finding that old patterns keep resurfacing.

Our therapists help people make sense of their emotional experience in a calm, confidential space. Rather than simply reducing symptoms, therapy focuses on understanding the patterns and meanings beneath your moods. This process often brings relief and renewed perspective. Sessions are available both in person at our Highett clinic and online.

Understanding Mood Disorders

Mood difficulties can appear as ongoing depression, apathy, low energy or swings between high and low periods. These experiences can arise from many influences — stress, life changes, trauma, loss or even long-standing ways of coping with uncertainty. They may also be affected by physical health or genetics.

Psychotherapy can help you see how mood patterns are connected to your relationships, self-criticism or early experiences. When we understand what fuels the emotional ups and downs, it becomes easier to feel more balanced and resilient.

What Happens in Therapy

Therapy offers a chance to slow down and reflect without judgement. You and your therapist will look at how thoughts, feelings and physical states interact, and how to navigate them more effectively. Some people focus on exploring deeper emotional causes, while others begin with practical tools to manage mood day to day.

Approaches may include psychotherapy, CBT or hypnotherapy, depending on what fits best for you. If needed, we can work collaboratively with your GP or psychiatrist to support your care.

Safety and Support

Bayside Psychotherapy is not a crisis service. If you ever feel unsafe or at risk, please call 000 or go to the nearest emergency department. For immediate support, you can contact Lifeline on 13 11 14.

When You’re Ready

If you have felt low, flat or emotionally stuck for some time, you don’t have to face it alone. Therapy can help you understand what your moods are trying to tell you and how to respond differently.
