About Me

For almost 20 years I’ve worked in a variety of roles focused on helping adults, children, young people, and families who are struggling with various issues in their lives. My passion for this began with an intense interest in human behaviour from a young age, wondering in early primary school how it’s possible that people learn how to talk, to watching psychology and child development programs on the ABC’s Open Learning initiative in the early 1990s, to completing a postgraduate degree in Psychology at Deakin University as a young adult.

More recently, I became aware of hypnotherapy and how it can be utilised for positive emotional and behavioural change, and undertook a government accredited training course to learn these skills. Soon after, I was fortunate to be able to begin working directly with clients utilising this new skill and have done so now for almost 10 years.

In addition to this, I continue to work in a counselling and advocacy role for a community service working with people who’ve experienced trauma.

Working with so many people in variety of situations has taught me that meaningful change often begins when you connect with a practitioner who supports you with compassion and acceptance, and who values your voice in the process.

How I can help you:

Thoughts, feelings, and behaviours that we struggle with are often normal responses that make sense in the context of our past experiences, but because they’re no longer needed, they can impact our current experience negatively.

I can help by providing a compassionate, non-judgemental, and safe space for you to explore ways to make meaningful, positive change. This includes valuing your input into the process and experimenting with strategies that we devise together.

Some of the work we do together might include aspects of:

  • Hypnotherapy – this includes a variety of different techniques which utilise our inherent imaginative ability to help change emotional and behavioural patterns
  • Mindfulness based approaches
  • Parts work – a version of mindfulness and hypnotherapy which draws from modalities such as Resource Therapy and Internal Family Systems
  • Somatic techniques which focus on how our bodies respond to our thoughts and emotions
  • Creative strategies such as writing and drawing

Please be aware that there are some issues I don’t see clients for. These include:

  • Sex/pornography addiction
  • Erectile disfunction
  • Emetophobia
  • Weight loss as a primary goal
  • Situations where risk assessment and safety planning by a specialist support service are recommended prior to therapeutic support.

Why work with me:

I work from a person-centred, strengths-based approach which means that who you are, your values, your goals, and the way you see therapy working for you are what guide the therapeutic approach. Essentially, this means that I value you as the expert in your life, so instead of me telling you what we’ll be doing, we’ll explore this together.

What I can bring to our sessions is years of ongoing education, training, and workplace experience which includes:

  • Various counselling techniques and therapeutic modalities such as CBT, ACT, mindfulness-based approaches, and hypnotherapy
  • Child and adolescent development, behaviour, and the impacts of trauma
  • Supporting people who’ve experienced sexual assault and exploitation
  • Supporting women, transgender people, and children who’ve experienced family violence
  • Substance use and addiction
  • The impacts of mental illness
  • Suicide awareness and support
  • Body image issues
  • Disordered eating behaviours
  • Body Focused Repetitive Behaviours
  • Grief and loss
  • Single Session Thinking (evidence-based training and experience in how to achieve meaningful outcomes for people experiencing complex issues in a single session).

Understanding your needs:

No matter how common a particular issue, your experience of it is unique to you. I aim to get to know you, including your strengths, your creativity, and let this guide our work together. I can bring lots of things to the table to help, but you bring the expertise in you.

You may feel you only need a few sessions to make the changes you want, or you might choose to attend for several months or more for ongoing support. I’m open to working with you as best I can in the time we have together. Sometimes all it takes is knocking over one domino to get things started, so even just one session has the potential to spark ongoing, positive change.

Getting started:

If working with me sounds like it could be right for you, please reach out via the online contact form or call the clinic on 9557 9113 to request a call back.

If you decide you’d like to book in with me, I will request we speak via phone or email prior to confirming this. This allows me to check in on your needs in a bit more detail to help determine our suitability for working together. It also gives you an opportunity to ask any questions you might have prior to committing to a session with me.

Due to this process, I do not have an online booking calendar. I will schedule our session for you and then send you a link to an online information form. I will then send you a video link the day before or the day of our first session.

Currently, I’m available for online sessions on Mondays and Tuesdays from 10.30am until 8pm.

Please be aware that bulk-billing and Medicare rebates are not available for my service.

I look forward to getting to know you!
